The crisis trailing the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly primaries has taken a new turn, as aggrieved aspirants have publicly dismissed allegations linking the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, to their protest against the outcome of the elections.
Under the umbrella of the Body of Lagos APC Aggrieved House of Representatives and House of Assembly Aspirants, the group described claims that Obasa sponsored the protest as false, misleading, and an attempt to divert attention from the real issues surrounding the primaries.
In a statement jointly signed by nine affected aspirants, the group insisted that the demonstration was a peaceful and legitimate expression of dissatisfaction over what they alleged were discrepancies between the actual results recorded during the primaries and those eventually announced by party officials.
According to the aspirants, concerns raised by protesters include alleged manipulation of results, distortion of voting outcomes, electoral irregularities, and violations of APC guidelines governing the conduct of the primaries.
The group stressed that thousands of party members participated in the protest out of genuine frustration and not because of sponsorship by any political figure.
They argued that attempting to drag Speaker Obasa into the controversy amounts to scapegoating and distracts from the urgent need to address the grievances of party members.
The aspirants further emphasized that every party member has a constitutional right to peacefully express concerns through lawful and democratic means, adding that dismissing their complaints would undermine confidence in the party’s internal democratic process.
Calling on APC leaders to intervene, the group urged the party’s leadership to thoroughly review the disputed results and resolve all outstanding issues before preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
They warned that failure to address the concerns of aggrieved members could threaten party unity, while a transparent review process would strengthen confidence, reconciliation, and cohesion within the ruling party.
The statement was signed by Hon. Kolawole Taiwo, Hon. Seye Oladejo, Hon. Ganiyu Ayuba, Hon. Noheem Adams, Hon. Ogundipe Stephen Olukayode, Hon. Apata Olu Samuel, Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi, Hon. Abiodun Azeez Ninolowo, and Hon. Doherty Olukoya David.
