Suspected fighters linked to Boko Haram have carried out a series of deadly overnight attacks on several communities in Niger State, leaving multiple residents feared dead and dozens of homes and businesses destroyed.
SUNTV Global Channel gathered from local sources that the heavily armed assailants launched coordinated raids late Friday across villages in Borgu and Agwara Local Government Areas, moving systematically from one settlement to another while setting buildings ablaze.
Residents said the violence began in Konkoso community, where at least a dozen people were reportedly killed during the initial assault. The attackers then advanced to nearby settlements including Pissa, Zango, and Tungan Makeri, continuing their deadly campaign.
Witnesses described scenes of chaos as gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, looted shops, and burned residential buildings, forcing many families to flee into surrounding bushes for safety.
As of the time of this report, neither the Niger State Government nor security agencies have issued an official statement confirming casualty figures or announcing arrests.
Meanwhile, the fresh attacks come amid growing security concerns in other parts of the country. Recently, Catholic priests in Taraba State raised alarm over worsening violence in southern communities, warning that sustained attacks have left thousands displaced and hundreds of homes destroyed.
Community leaders in the affected Niger areas are now calling for urgent deployment of security forces to prevent further bloodshed and protect vulnerable rural populations.
