The Lagos State Police Command is facing growing criticism following allegations that officers are being compelled to pay ₦5,000 each for the submission of bio-data forms—an exercise many describe as purely administrative.
According to multiple sources within the command, the directive has sparked frustration and discontent, particularly among senior officers, including those holding the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above.
Insiders revealed that the payment is being enforced on individual officers as part of an internal documentation process. However, many affected personnel have condemned the move, labeling it as exploitative and unjustified.
“This is simply an administrative task. Asking officers to pay for it is nothing short of extortion,” one officer disclosed anonymously.
The controversy comes barely weeks after the Inspector-General of Police issued a nationwide directive warning against extortion and misconduct within the force. The directive, circulated through internal police communications in April, emphasized professionalism, discipline, and the urgent need to rebuild public trust.

The latest allegations within the Lagos Command now raise fresh concerns about internal accountability and whether the leadership’s reform directives are being effectively implemented.
