Former presidential candidate, , has officially announced his exit from the (ADC), citing rising political interference, internal instability, and a hostile environment within the party.
In a detailed statement shared on Sunday, Obi opened up about the personal and political pressures influencing his decision, describing what he called “silent pains” and the hidden struggles faced by public figures in Nigeria.
According to him, the political space has become increasingly toxic, with systems meant to serve the people instead creating hardship and discouragement.
“We now live in an environment where intimidation, insecurity, and misrepresentation have become widespread,” he stated.
Obi clarified that his departure was not due to personal grievances with key party leaders, including and , whom he described as respected figures.
However, he alleged that external political forces and internal divisions have continued to destabilize the party, mirroring challenges he previously faced.
“The same forces that created crises elsewhere are now finding their way into the ADC, resulting in endless court cases, suspicion, and division,” Obi said.
He also lamented what he described as betrayal and criticism from within political circles, noting that some allies publicly show support but privately distance themselves.
Despite stepping away from the party, Obi emphasized that he remains committed to national service and the vision of a better Nigeria.
He dismissed speculations about personal ambition, insisting he is not desperate for political office but focused on addressing issues such as insecurity, poverty, and poor governance.
“I am not desperate to be President… I am desperate to see a Nigeria where people are safe, fed, and treated with dignity,” he added.
Obi concluded by reaffirming his belief that Nigeria can still achieve transformative leadership built on justice, competence, and compassion.
His exit comes amid growing turbulence within the ADC, following recent concerns raised by over legal battles and internal crises threatening the party’s stability ahead of the 2027 elections.
