Residents of Minna, the Niger State capital, are set to experience a temporary power outage following a planned maintenance exercise by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
TCN announced on Tuesday that the interruption in electricity supply is necessary to carry out maintenance on a 30MVA, 132/33kV power transformer (TR2) located at the Minna Transmission Substation.
According to a statement signed by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the maintenance work commenced at about 9:30am on Monday and is expected to be completed by 4:00pm the same day.
The company explained that the planned exercise is aimed at improving the efficiency, reliability, and long-term performance of the transformer that supplies electricity to Minna and its surrounding communities.
TCN noted that during the maintenance period, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) would be unable to receive bulk power supply to several areas within the metropolis.
Areas expected to be affected by the temporary blackout include Tunga, Shiroro Area, Police Secondary School, Air Force Base, Maikunkele, Tudun Fulani, Beji, Chanchaga, Tungan Goro, Federal Government College (FGC), Bosso Low-Cost, Okada Road, parts of London Street, Kateregi, and Sabon Daga, among others.
The transmission company assured residents and businesses that electricity supply would be fully restored immediately after the maintenance work is concluded.
TCN also apologized for any inconvenience the planned outage may cause and appealed to consumers in the affected areas to be patient, stressing that the exercise is in their long-term interest.
