Millions of users across the globe experienced disruptions on Sunday after Facebook and Instagram suffered a widespread service outage, preventing many people from accessing their accounts and using key features on the platforms.
The disruption was first noticed when Facebook users attempting to log in through the desktop version were met with an error message stating that their accounts were “temporarily unavailable due to a site issue,” with the platform assuring users that normal service would be restored shortly.
Outage monitoring services recorded a sharp increase in reports from affected users, with thousands filing complaints within a short period as the problem spread across multiple countries.
While the desktop version of Facebook was largely inaccessible for many users, some reported that the mobile application continued to function with limited interruptions. Instagram also experienced technical issues, with users unable to refresh their feeds or view newly published posts.
The outage triggered widespread reactions online, as users turned to alternative platforms to confirm whether the disruption was global.
Facebook and Instagram, both owned by Meta, are among the world’s most widely used social media platforms, serving billions of users for communication, entertainment, business promotion, and digital commerce.
As of the time of this report, Meta had not issued a detailed explanation regarding the cause of the outage, while efforts to restore full services were ongoing.
SUNTV Global Channel will continue to monitor the situation and provide verified updates as more information becomes available.
