Nigerian troops have foiled an attempted terrorist attack in Katsina State, killing one suspected terrorist and recovering four motorcycles and other items during a military operation.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of September 4 by troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, following intelligence reports about the activities of suspected terrorists around the Yantumaki Forest axis in Dan Musa Local Government Area.

According to the military, troops moved into the area and engaged the armed group in a gun battle, forcing the remaining members of the gang to flee into nearby bushes.

During a subsequent search of the area, soldiers confirmed the death of one suspected terrorist and recovered four motorcycles, a mobile phone and five empty intravenous drip containers believed to have been used for treating injured members of the group.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Saturday by the Media Information Officer of Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja.

The military said the operation reflects ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks and restrict the activities of armed groups operating across the North-West region.

Operation FANSAN YAMMA also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing operations against criminal and terrorist elements.

Security operations have intensified across several parts of Katsina and the wider North-West as troops continue efforts to curb attacks and disrupt the activities of armed groups in the region.
