ABAKALIKI, EBONYI STATE — Pastor Isah Lazarus Alkali has charged Christians to embrace godly wisdom, righteous living, prayer and fasting, stressing that being prayerful without wisdom may hinder a believer’s progress in life.
The cleric delivered the message while ministering at Living Faith Church, Azugwu, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, in a sermon titled “Creative Wisdom Is My Heritage.”
Reading from Matthew 13:54–55, Pastor Alkali spoke about the extraordinary wisdom demonstrated by Jesus Christ, encouraging believers to understand their spiritual heritage and seek the wisdom that comes from God.
According to him, Christianity is not only about prayer but also requires divine wisdom in navigating the challenges of life.
“You can be prayerful, but without wisdom, you may still fail. As a Christian, you must have wisdom,” he told the congregation.
He referenced the life of Jesus Christ, noting that even at a young age, Christ demonstrated exceptional wisdom while engaging with learned teachers.
Speaking further from James 3:15–17, Pastor Alkali distinguished between earthly wisdom and the wisdom that comes from God, warning Christians against engaging in evil practices or believing that harming others makes them wise or successful.
He condemned acts of wickedness motivated by the pursuit of wealth, power and personal advancement, questioning why anyone would believe that another person’s suffering or death could become the foundation for their success.
The preacher also warned against seeking spiritual protection and favour from other gods while professing faith in God.
“Why should someone have to die before you find peace or progress in life?” he asked, urging believers to reject every form of evil and depend completely on God.
He further reminded the congregation of the biblical principle that those who dig a pit for others may eventually fall into it themselves, calling on Christians to live peacefully and avoid plotting evil against fellow human beings.
Drawing lessons from the Scriptures, including 1 Corinthians 9:10, Pastor Alkali encouraged members to genuinely love God and remain faithful, assuring them that God has great plans for those who trust and follow Him.
He offered prayers for the congregation, declaring that those who sincerely love God should remain hopeful because God has something great in store for their lives.
Pastor Alkali also urged church members to make Scripture reading a personal priority, encouraging them to search the Word of God and discover their place in the race of life.
He challenged Christians to engage more seriously in prayer and fasting, describing spiritual discipline as an important tool for personal growth and development.
Referencing Jeremiah 33:3, the cleric encouraged believers to call upon God for direction, revelation and divine understanding.
The sermon centred on the importance of combining faith with wisdom, righteous living and spiritual discipline, with Pastor Alkali reminding Christians that true success should never come at the expense of another person’s life or wellbeing.
