The Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Joel Onowakpo-Thomas, has emerged victorious in the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Onowakpo-Thomas secured a landslide victory over former Delta State House of Assembly member, Michael Diden, popularly known as “Ejele,” after polling an impressive 87,805 votes against Diden’s 30,794 votes.
The results were officially announced late Monday night at the APC Collation Centre located at James Ekpre Otobo Hall in Oleh, headquarters of Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State.
According to the election panel chairman, Senator Onowakpo-Thomas dominated seven out of the eight local government areas in the district, while his opponent, Diden, won only in his home base of Warri North Local Government Area.
Speaking shortly after his declaration as winner, the jubilant senator expressed gratitude to God and appreciated top APC leaders and stakeholders for their unwavering support throughout the primary election.
He specifically thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Emomotimi Guwor, as well as council chairmen across the district for standing by his re-election bid.
Onowakpo-Thomas also praised party leaders, security agencies, and APC faithful across Delta South for ensuring a peaceful and credible exercise.
“The overwhelming support from the people shows they have confidence in my representation, and I will continue to deliver quality service to Delta South,” the senator stated.
He further assured constituents that his return to the Senate as a ranking lawmaker would attract greater development, stronger representation, and more democratic dividends to the people of Delta South.
The senator called on APC members and supporters to remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing optimism that the party would record another major victory at the polls.
