Iranian forces have launched a new wave of attacks against Kurdish armed groups in northern Iraq, accusing them of collaborating with the United States and Israel, as the broader Middle East conflict escalates. Simultaneously, Tehran intensified missile and drone strikes targeting American and Israeli positions across the region.
This marks the 19th series of Iranian strikes since coordinated U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran began nearly a week ago, a conflict that has reportedly claimed over 1,045 lives, according to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency.
Iranian state media confirmed that the operations targeted “anti-Iran separatist forces” in Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region, although exact locations were initially not disclosed. Iran’s intelligence ministry later stated the strikes hit groups allegedly preparing to infiltrate Iranian territory and claimed these forces were coordinating with U.S. and Israeli authorities.
Local reports from Sulaimaniyah province in northeastern Iraq said at least four explosions rocked the areas of Arabat, Zarkuiz, and Surdash, appearing to target the headquarters of the Komala group, an Iranian Kurdish armed organization. Social media videos showed massive fires and explosions illuminating the night sky during the attacks.
The escalation comes amid reports that several Iranian Kurdish groups along the Iran-Iraq border had recently met with U.S. officials to discuss potential coordinated operations against Iranian security forces, though Tasnim denied any cross-border actions had occurred.
At the same time, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced a new round of missile and drone strikes against Israel and American military installations. Israeli air defense intercepted two drones over western Galilee, while Saudi Arabia confirmed it had shot down three drones linked to the Iranian campaign.
In Doha, Qatar, residents near the U.S. Embassy were ordered to evacuate their homes due to fears of potential attacks on American diplomatic facilities.
The United States and Israel continued heavy bombardments across Iran, with explosions reported in Tehran and Kurdish cities including Sanandaj, Saqqez, and Bukan, highlighting the intensifying scope of the regional conflict.
