Russian President Vladimir Putin has revealed that Ukraine has proposed a temporary halt to long-range attacks and requested a meeting between the leaders of both countries as efforts to end the ongoing war continue.
Speaking on Monday, Putin said Moscow is reviewing the proposals but argued that such an arrangement would benefit Ukraine more than Russia due to the impact of Russia’s ongoing military operations.
According to the Russian President, discussions between both sides have continued through various diplomatic channels, including proposals for a temporary ceasefire along the frontline and a suspension of long-range strikes.
“There are also proposals to stop strikes on each other’s territory. We are considering them, but our counter-strikes have had a much greater impact on Ukraine,” Putin said.
He maintained that Russia’s military operations have inflicted significant damage on Ukraine, suggesting that Kyiv’s request for a temporary halt is driven by the pressure of continued Russian attacks.
Despite expressing willingness to examine the proposals, Putin indicated that Moscow believes a pause in hostilities would provide greater strategic relief to Ukraine than to Russia.
The latest comments come as fighting between Russian and Ukrainian forces continues, with international efforts to broker a ceasefire and revive peace negotiations yet to produce a lasting breakthrough.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently reported that renewed Russian missile, drone and aerial bomb attacks killed at least seven people and injured dozens across several regions, including Zaporizhzhia and Poltava.
The conflict, now in its fifth year, continues to claim lives and destroy infrastructure despite repeated international calls for a negotiated peace settlement.
While diplomatic contacts remain active, there is no official agreement yet on a temporary ceasefire or the proposed suspension of long-range attacks.
As the war enters another critical phase, the international community continues to watch closely for any breakthrough that could pave the way for broader peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv.
