The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Dickson, has declared that the party is open to forming a coalition with other opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, provided such an alliance advances the interests of the NDC and its candidates.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Dickson said discussions with other opposition parties remain a possibility after all political parties complete their nomination processes.
“As an opposition leader, our party, the NDC, will be open to conversations. Whether those discussions lead to a formal coalition remains to be seen, but every option is on the table,” he said.
The former governor described the NDC as Nigeria’s fastest-growing opposition platform despite being only five months old, saying the party’s rapid expansion reflects Nigerians’ growing desire for credible political alternatives.
Dickson noted that his style of politics focuses on ideas, principles and national development rather than personal attacks against political opponents.
According to him, the NDC’s recent primary elections demonstrated increasing public confidence in the party, despite acknowledging that no electoral process is completely perfect.
Addressing speculation about possible alliances with prominent opposition figures, including former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Dickson reiterated that the party remains willing to engage in constructive dialogue after the nomination stage.
However, he stressed that any coalition must strengthen the NDC’s chances in the 2027 elections.
“Whatever discussions we have must ultimately support the NDC and the candidates we are presenting to Nigerians,” he stated.
Responding to comments from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) that the opposition lacks a path to victory in 2027, Dickson insisted that elections should be decided through a free, fair and transparent process.
He called on the electoral authorities to ensure that all registered political parties are allowed to participate freely in the elections without intimidation or restrictions.
Dickson also dismissed speculation that he could return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reaffirming his commitment to the NDC.
“No, no, no. This is NDC. NDC for life,” he declared.
His remarks come as opposition parties continue to explore strategies that could reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
