Prominent human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), joined hundreds of #EndBadGovernance protesters and civil society activists on Friday as they marched through Lagos to demand urgent action against insecurity, kidnapping, and worsening economic hardship across Nigeria.
The Democracy Day protest, which began at the Ikeja Underbridge, attracted members of various advocacy groups, including the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR). Demonstrators carried placards bearing messages such as “No Democracy Without Security,” “End Insecurity and Kidnapping,” “End Bad Governance,” and “Free All Abducted Children, Teachers, and Farmers.”
Addressing the crowd, Falana stressed that democracy should deliver security, economic opportunities, and improved living conditions for citizens. He called on government officials at all levels to be more accountable and responsive to the needs of Nigerians.
The protesters expressed concern over rising cases of kidnapping, violent attacks, banditry, and other security challenges affecting communities across the country. They also highlighted the impact of inflation, soaring food prices, increasing transportation costs, and declining purchasing power on ordinary Nigerians.
The rally was organized under the #EndBadGovernance movement, which gained national attention following nationwide protests against economic hardship and governance failures.
Participants noted that while Nigeria marks 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule and commemorates the historic June 12 struggle, many citizens believe the promises of democracy remain unfulfilled due to persistent insecurity, unemployment, poverty, corruption, and other socio-economic challenges.
The protest remained peaceful as demonstrators called on the Federal Government to prioritize the welfare, safety, and well-being of Nigerians.
