Popular Nigerian rapper and activist, Falz, alongside members of the Take It Back (TIB) Movement, the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), lawyers from Falana Chambers, and other civil society activists, joined a Democracy Day protest in Lagos State, calling on the Federal Government to urgently tackle insecurity and kidnappings across the country.
The peaceful demonstration took place on Friday at the Ikeja Under Bridge, where protesters carried placards and banners demanding improved security, accountability, and better governance.
Among prominent figures present were renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN), activist and lawyer Funmi Falana (SAN), Falz, CDHR Lagos State Chairman Comrade Wale Ojo, and activist Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Soweto.
Protesters displayed messages such as “No Democracy Without Security” and “End Insecurity and Kidnapping,” highlighting growing concerns over the rising wave of kidnappings, banditry, and violent crimes affecting communities across Nigeria.
Speaking during the protest, Falz reaffirmed his commitment to democratic values and citizen participation in governance.
“I personally believe in the democratic system and democratic process, and I am ready to exercise my franchise,” he stated.
The demonstrators argued that democracy cannot flourish in an environment where citizens live in constant fear and insecurity. They urged the government to take decisive action to protect lives and property, stressing that security remains the primary responsibility of any administration.
The protest formed part of activities marking Nigeria’s 2026 Democracy Day celebration, with participants insisting that democratic governance must deliver tangible improvements in security, justice, and the welfare of ordinary citizens.
The event remained peaceful as protesters marched through the streets, chanting solidarity songs and calling for meaningful reforms.
