The family of former Kaduna State Governor, , has accused the (ICPC) of violating a court order by allegedly denying him access to medical care and restricting family visits while in custody.
In separate statements released on Friday, El-Rufai’s wife, Aichatou El-Rufai, and his son, , condemned what they described as a serious abuse of the former governor’s constitutional rights.
According to Aichatou El-Rufai, her husband’s personal doctor was prevented from seeing him despite an existing court order reportedly granting unrestricted medical access.
She explained that the doctor had visited the ICPC office to follow up on medical tests recently conducted on the former governor but was allegedly turned back by officials who demanded written approval from the agency’s chairman.
Aichatou further claimed that she was denied access to deliver dinner to her husband after arriving at the commission’s premises around 7pm, with officials reportedly insisting that food deliveries were not allowed after 6:30pm.
Reacting to the development, Bello El-Rufai described the actions as “an outright assault on the rule of law” and accused the anti-graft agency of violating his father’s fundamental human rights.
The lawmaker maintained that no lawful detention should deny an individual access to medical care or basic family support, insisting that the ICPC must respect the court order and constitutional provisions guiding detainees’ rights.
As of the time of filing this report, the ICPC had not officially responded to the allegations raised by the El-Rufai family.
The controversy has continued to generate reactions across political and legal circles, with concerns growing over due process and the treatment of high-profile detainees in Nigeria.
