A student nurse in , , has been arrested by operatives of the following her viral video exposing deplorable conditions at a public hospital.
Ezeugwu, who had earlier drawn national attention to the state of , was reportedly taken into custody on Monday morning. Her arrest was disclosed by , who raised alarm via social media.
According to Onyia, the arrest was allegedly initiated following a petition filed by , an administrator at , where Ezeugwu is a student.
Ezeugwu is currently being held at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Enugu, where she is said to be responding to allegations contained in the petition.
The controversy stems from a viral video released in March 2026, in which Ezeugwu and other healthcare workers exposed shocking conditions inside the hospital. The footage revealed a lack of electricity, running water, and essential medical supplies, including oxygen, while patients—including a woman in labour—were being treated under dire circumstances.
Following the video, the nursing student was reportedly handed an indefinite suspension by her school and removed from clinical duties, a move that sparked public criticism and accusations of victimisation.
In a further twist, Onyia alleged that the school administrator is demanding ₦10 million in damages from Ezeugwu over claims of emotional and psychological distress.
Despite initial reactions from authorities, including reported efforts by the state government to address some of the hospital’s deficiencies, critics say the focus has now shifted from fixing systemic failures to targeting the whistleblower.
The arrest has triggered widespread outrage on social media, with many Nigerians condemning what they describe as an attempt to silence individuals who expose institutional decay within the healthcare and education sectors.
Efforts to obtain official comments from police authorities in Enugu have so far been unsuccessful, further fueling public concern over transparency and accountability.
