Fresh controversy has erupted within the ruling in Kwara State as several party aspirants accuse Governor of attempting to impose former Commissioner for Works, Abdulquawiy Olododo, as a House of Representatives candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to multiple sources within the APC, some aspirants were allegedly pressured to step down in favour of Olododo, with promises of future political appointments reportedly used as incentives.
Party insiders further alleged that the move is aimed at shielding the former commissioner from possible investigation by the over alleged mismanagement of public funds after the governor leaves office.
Sources claimed that Olododo was previously detained by the EFCC in Ilorin before reportedly regaining freedom following intervention from powerful political figures.
The alleged endorsement has reportedly sparked dissatisfaction among party loyalists, many of whom argue that Kwara politics should not become a system dominated by a few connected families.
Critics within the party accused the governor of contradicting the principles of the 2019 “O To Ge” political movement, which was widely celebrated for challenging long-standing political dominance in the state.
Several APC members insist that the party should reward grassroots loyalty, competence, and sacrifice rather than what they described as “inheritance politics.”
The controversy comes amid growing debates over internal democracy within political parties as preparations for the 2027 elections gradually intensify across Nigeria.
Meanwhile, neither Governor AbdulRazaq nor Abdulquawiy Olododo had officially responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
