Officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Saturday arrived at the polling unit of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, as concerns over alleged vote-buying continued to trail the ongoing governorship election across the state.
The anti-graft operatives were sighted at Polling Unit 003, Ward 06, Ikogosi, in Ekiti West Local Government Area, shortly after voting commenced. Witnesses reported that approximately 10 EFCC officials were deployed to the area to monitor electoral activities and ensure compliance with electoral laws.
The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of the election process following repeated warnings from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), civil society organisations, and anti-corruption agencies against voter inducement and other electoral offences.
Despite the presence of the EFCC team, voting continued peacefully at the polling unit without any reported disruption. As of the time of filing this report, no arrests had been made, while security personnel and election observers remained on ground to monitor the exercise.
Governor Oyebanji is seeking re-election in the governorship contest being conducted across the 16 local government areas of Ekiti State.
Authorities have urged political parties, candidates, and voters to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid actions capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process.
