The Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre (RULAAC) has called on Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to make public the outcome of an investigation into the arrest, detention, prosecution, and alleged destruction of the home of the Chikadibia family during a police operation in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area.
In a letter addressed to the governor, the civil rights organisation expressed concern that more than three months after the state government reportedly ordered an investigation into the incident, the affected family has not received any information regarding the findings or any form of compensation.
According to RULAAC, members of the Chikadibia family — including Mr. Sunday Chikadibia and his daughters, Glory, Ngozi, and Ogechi — were arrested during a police operation in April 2025. The group further alleged that while the family members were in custody, their home was demolished and personal belongings removed.
The organisation stated that the incident left the family displaced, financially devastated, and emotionally traumatised. It also referenced the death of Mrs. Chioma Chikadibia in August 2025, claiming the family’s ordeal contributed significantly to her deteriorating health.
RULAAC is urging the Abia State Government to publish the findings of its investigation, hold any culpable officers accountable, compensate the family for losses suffered, provide resettlement assistance, and introduce reforms to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The advocacy group said the case presents an opportunity for the government to reinforce public confidence in justice, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Abia State Government regarding the latest appeal.
