A nursing mother in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has accused operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of carrying out a violent early-morning operation at her family residence, during which she alleges she and her husband were assaulted, household property was damaged, and her husband was taken away.
The woman, whose emotional account has been circulating on social media, said the incident occurred between 3:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on Friday, when more than 30 armed men allegedly stormed their home.
According to her, she and her husband delayed opening the door because they were getting dressed after being awakened by loud knocks. She claimed the operatives forced their way into the house before they could respond.
The woman alleged that she and her husband were physically assaulted immediately after the officers entered the residence. She said the disturbance also woke their four-month-old baby, whom she was carrying when the alleged assault occurred.
She further claimed that one of the operatives took the baby from her arms and placed the child on a bed while officers continued questioning and searching the house.
According to her, the operatives searched every room, demanded mobile phones belonging to members of the household, and confiscated several devices. She also alleged that her husband’s vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz registered in their daughter’s name, was seized during the operation.
The nursing mother said she attempted to record the incident with her phone but alleged that officers confiscated it and later seized a second phone after demanding she hand it over.
She claimed the officials left the residence with her husband without disclosing where he was being taken.
Following the operation, she said she visited the EFCC office in Old GRA, Port Harcourt, in search of her husband but was allegedly informed that the team responsible for the operation had not returned. She added that when she later returned with her father-in-law and also sent a lawyer to make inquiries, they reportedly received conflicting information regarding whether her husband was in EFCC custody.
The woman questioned why the operation was allegedly carried out without presenting an arrest warrant and accused the operatives of disabling her home’s CCTV cameras to prevent the incident from being recorded.
She also alleged that this was not the first time EFCC officials had visited the family, claiming that a similar search was conducted in 2022 but no incriminating evidence was found.
Appealing to the public and the leadership of the EFCC, the visibly distressed mother said she remains deeply concerned about her husband’s safety and called for information regarding his whereabouts.
As of the time of this report, the EFCC had not publicly responded to the allegations. Efforts by SaharaReporters to obtain comments from EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale were reportedly unsuccessful.
