Crisis has erupted within the (ADC) in Kogi Central Senatorial District as several aspirants accused loyalists of former Kogi State Governor, , of hijacking the party’s primary elections and attempting to impose candidates on members.
The aggrieved aspirants alleged that no valid primary election was conducted across Kogi Central despite thousands of party members gathering in anticipation of the exercise on Thursday.
In a statement jointly signed by ADC senatorial aspirant, Prince Murtala Sani Omolori, alongside other aspirants including Aisha Ibrahim Adoke, Ado Okikiri Adinnji, and Abdulkareem Yusuf, the group accused former senator and ADC aspirant, , of masterminding the alleged seizure of electoral materials.
“What happened to democracy in Kogi Central under the ADC platform cannot be hidden. No election was held anywhere in Kogi Central,” the statement read.
The aspirants claimed that election materials meant for wards across Okene, Ogori, and Magongo never reached the designated centres, alleging that the materials were intercepted by individuals loyal to Ogembe.
According to them, party members waited for hours without any voting process taking place.
“No materials arrived at the designated ward centres. No voting took place. No registers were opened. This is not an election. It is theft of the people’s mandate before it even began,” the aspirants alleged.
The group further claimed that they had earlier warned the ADC national leadership through petitions about an alleged plot to hijack the process, relocate voting venues to private residences, and use loyal returning officers to impose preferred candidates.
They insisted that any result announced from the disputed exercise should be considered fraudulent and unacceptable.
The aspirants also called on the (INEC) to reject any report submitted from what they described as an illegitimate process.
In addition, they demanded the cancellation of the primary election and requested that the ADC national secretariat constitute an independent electoral committee to conduct a fresh and transparent exercise across all wards in Kogi Central.
Meanwhile, another source familiar with the development alleged that Kabiru Onimisi Attah, an aspirant for the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency seat under the ADC, was also involved in the disruption of the process.
The crisis has further deepened internal tensions within the ADC ahead of upcoming elections, with party members warning that failure to address the controversy could weaken the party’s credibility in Kogi State.
