Tragedy struck in Niger State after an aide to the Deputy Governor, , was reportedly stabbed to death by unknown assailants at his residence in the Maitumbi area of Minna.
The deceased, who also served as President of the (MEYA), was attacked in the early hours of Thursday inside his home located directly opposite the Maitumbi Police Station.
Sources revealed that the attackers gained access to the residence around 2:00 a.m. while Dabawu was at home with his newly married wife and teenage daughter.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victim reportedly noticed that the entrance door to the living room had been left open and stepped out to investigate before he was suddenly attacked.
“He went into the parlour to check who was there but got no response. Moments later, he was stabbed in the chest by an assailant believed to have been hiding inside the apartment,” a source disclosed.
The attackers were said to be dressed in jalabiya clothing and face masks during the operation.
Sources further disclosed that Dabawu had returned the same night from Kuta in Shiroro Local Government Area, where he participated in a political primary election before the deadly incident occurred.
The confirmed the attack, stating that officers responded immediately after hearing distress calls from the area.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun said officers found the victim lying in a pool of blood and rushed him to the General Hospital in Minna, where he was later confirmed dead.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that some miscreants wearing face masks trespassed into the deceased’s residence and attacked him,” the police statement said.
Authorities added that investigations are ongoing while efforts are being intensified to identify and arrest the suspects behind the killing.
Meanwhile, Niger State Deputy Governor, , has expressed deep sadness over the incident, describing the killing as tragic, painful, and heartbreaking.
The deputy governor also called on security agencies to ensure justice is served while urging residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
The shocking murder has sparked renewed concerns over insecurity in the country, especially as the attack occurred directly opposite a police station.
