The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening military cooperation with Nigeria in the fight against terrorism and insurgency, pledging continued collaboration in defence strategy, operational planning and capacity building.
The assurance was given by the Commander of the United States Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA), Major General Claude Tudor, during a visit to the Headquarters of Operation HADIN KAI at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State.
According to military authorities, the visit was aimed at deepening the strategic security partnership between Nigeria and the United States and enhancing ongoing counterterrorism operations in the North-East.
During the engagement, Major General Tudor praised the Nigerian military for its achievements in the fight against insurgency, describing the collaboration between both countries as a model of effective military partnership.
He also commended the integration of U.S. Special Operations personnel into Operation HADIN KAI, noting that the strong cooperation, mutual trust and shared commitment remain vital to defeating terrorist groups and restoring lasting peace in the region.
The SOCAFRICA commander reaffirmed the U.S. government’s commitment to supporting Nigeria through enhanced military strategy, operational planning, intelligence sharing and other areas of defence cooperation.
Responding, the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, expressed appreciation to the United States for its continued support, stating that the partnership has significantly improved the effectiveness of military operations against insurgents.
He, however, stressed the need for additional advanced technological capabilities to further strengthen ongoing counterterrorism operations.
Both military leaders pledged to deepen the Nigeria-U.S. security partnership and intensify joint efforts to combat terrorism, disrupt extremist networks and promote lasting peace across Nigeria’s North-East and the wider Lake Chad region.
The visit comes amid sustained security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States as both countries continue to strengthen joint efforts against terrorism and other transnational security threats.
