The Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Jarrett Tenebe, is facing widespread backlash following the emergence of alleged death threats sent to a woman who criticised Governor Monday Okpebholo on Facebook.
The woman, identified as Blessing P. Agho, shared screenshots of what she described as threatening messages sent to her via Facebook Messenger, allegedly by Tenebe. In the messages, the APC chairman is accused of issuing explicit threats, including a demand that she reveal her location.
One of the messages reads:
“Your death is close. You are a bastard. Just show where you are if you can. Death awaits you. Send me your address or come out to Wuse 2 in front of Atiku’s campaign office at 9pm tomorrow.”
The screenshots, which have since gone viral, sparked outrage across social media, with many Nigerians condemning the alleged threats and questioning how a senior political figure could engage in such conduct.
Reacting to the incident, Agho wrote on Facebook:
“The APC state chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, threatened me via messenger. How did this mentally unstable person end up becoming a state chairman? No wonder there are calls to remove him from office.”
She also called on Governor Okpebholo to address the conduct of the party chairman.
The development has triggered growing calls for security agencies, particularly the Nigeria Police Force, to invite Tenebe for questioning, as critics warn that unchecked political intimidation poses a serious threat to free speech and democratic engagement.
This is not the first time Tenebe has courted controversy. Months earlier, he attracted national attention after openly declaring absolute loyalty to Governor Okpebholo during a public event tagged “Edo State City Boy Employment 2025.”
In a widely circulated video, Tenebe stated:
“Our loyalty to our governor is of no break, no gear, no sense. Anything the governor tells us to do, we cannot argue.”
He further likened the party’s obedience to a truck descending without gears, describing it as “deadly,” and boasted that 3.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election were already “settled.”
As of the time of filing this report, neither Jarrett Tenebe nor the Edo State APC has issued an official response to the alleged threats.
