Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Ukrainian long-range forces carried out strikes on several strategic targets inside Russia, including a weapons manufacturing plant, an oil refinery, logistics infrastructure and a warship, as the conflict between the two countries continues.
In a statement released on Saturday, Zelensky said the operation was part of Ukraine’s ongoing response to repeated Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.
According to the Ukrainian president, one of the major targets was a military production facility in Russia’s Kirov region, which he described as a key supplier of components used in Russian weapons.
“Ukraine continues its long-range operations in response to Russian strikes. Last night, our Defence Forces struck targets across different regions of Russia that are helping sustain this war,” Zelensky said.
He added that the Kirov facility, located approximately 1,200 kilometres from Ukraine’s border, was successfully targeted during the operation.
Zelensky also claimed that Ukrainian forces struck an oil refinery in Tyumen, a logistics facility in Yekaterinburg, and a fuel and lubricants depot in Rostov-on-Don.
In addition, he said Ukrainian forces conducted successful operations in the Caspian Sea, targeting vessels allegedly involved in military cargo shipments linked to Iran, as well as a Russian warship.
“We also achieved significant results in the Caspian Sea, including strikes on vessels used in military cargo shipments involving Iran and a Russian warship,” the Ukrainian leader stated.
The claims highlight Ukraine’s continued efforts to expand long-range attacks on Russian military, energy and logistics infrastructure, which Kyiv says are aimed at weakening Moscow’s ability to sustain its military operations.
Since the outbreak of the war, Ukraine has increasingly targeted oil refineries, fuel depots, logistics hubs and defence production facilities deep inside Russian territory. Ukrainian officials maintain that such operations are intended to reduce Russia’s military capabilities.
The latest statement also points to an expansion of Ukrainian military operations into the Caspian Sea. Iran has previously been accused by Ukraine and several Western governments of supplying drones and other military equipment to Russia, allegations Tehran has repeatedly denied.
As of the time of this report, Russian authorities had not publicly responded to Zelensky’s latest claims, and the reported strikes have not been independently verified.
