Tragic Accident in Abuja: POS Operator Killed as Speeding Bus Allegedly Pursued by FRSC Officials

Abuja, January 26, 2026 – News

A female Point of Sale (POS) operator has tragically lost her life after being struck by a commercial coaster bus near the Total filling station in Berger, Abuja, on Monday morning, eyewitnesses reported.

According to multiple accounts, the bus was reportedly being chased at high speed by Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officials when the fatal incident occurred. An eyewitness, identified as Johnson, said the victim had arrived early for work and was crossing the road after buying food when the bus struck her.

“The woman came very early, bought food, and was trying to cross the road near the Total station when the bus hit her and flung her to the other side. Neither the driver nor the FRSC officials stopped; they continued the chase,” Johnson said.

The victim sustained severe injuries and was left on the road for several minutes before police from the Utako Division arrived. A bystander reportedly captured the incident on video and assisted authorities.

Reacting to the tragedy, FCT Sector Commander of the FRSC, Felix Theman, confirmed that an investigation has begun. Patrol teams operating in the area have been recalled to determine whether any FRSC vehicles were involved.

“We are investigating the report and it would be premature to conclude that our patrol team was involved. Motorists sometimes mistakenly believe they are being pursued by FRSC officials,” Theman stated.

The incident has raised concerns over road safety in Abuja, particularly in busy commercial areas where pedestrians are vulnerable to speeding vehicles.
