The has commenced an internal investigation following serious allegations of medical negligence surrounding the death of Alhaji Nuhu Dantani, father of a prominent legal practitioner and human rights activist.
SUNTV Global Channel gathered that the hospital’s management confirmed receipt of a formal petition filed by the deceased’s son, raising concerns over what he described as gross medical negligence, unprofessional conduct, and systemic failure during his father’s treatment.
According to an official statement, the hospital acknowledged the petition and assured that a thorough review is already underway to determine the circumstances that led to Dantani’s death on March 31, 2026.
“We recognise the gravity of the concerns raised and wish to assure you that the hospital takes allegations of medical negligence and unprofessional conduct seriously,” the management stated, while extending condolences to the bereaved family.
The petitioner, speaking in his dual capacity as a lawyer and the deceased’s son, alleged that his father was abandoned for two days without proper diagnosis or meaningful medical intervention after being rushed back to the hospital in critical condition.
He explained that the late Dantani had initially undergone a prostate-related surgical procedure at the hospital’s Kidney Centre and was discharged with a follow-up date. However, his condition reportedly deteriorated rapidly, prompting an emergency readmission.
The petition claims that during his stay at the Emergency Unit, the patient was left unattended without clear medical direction, despite being in severe distress. It further alleges that his condition worsened after being transferred between wards without adequate supervision from attending physicians.
According to the complaint, nursing staff allegedly administered only intravenous fluids without a coordinated treatment plan, while there was a noticeable absence of senior medical personnel to oversee his care.
Describing the incident as “avoidable,” the petitioner called for an independent and transparent investigation into what he termed a systemic breakdown in the hospital’s standard of care.
In response, hospital authorities confirmed that a formal inquiry has been activated, adding that appropriate administrative and professional actions will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation.
The case has since sparked public concern over healthcare standards and accountability in Nigerian medical institutions, as many await the findings of the probe.
