Suspected terrorists unleashed fresh violence on residents of Gbugbu community in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State on Sunday evening, killing at least two people, abducting a trader, and leaving a young girl with gunshot wounds.
Eyewitnesses told SUNTV Global Channel that the heavily armed attackers stormed the quiet town while firing sporadically, sending terrified residents fleeing for safety as chaos spread across neighborhoods.
During the raid, a popular trader, Rilwan Bello, was abducted from his shop located beside the well-known Ezigbo Store. His salesperson was reportedly shot dead at the scene before the gunmen escaped into nearby bushes with Bello.
A local media platform, NupekoTv-Lafiagi, confirmed that another victim — a resident from the Dukawa community — was also killed during the attack.
Meanwhile, a young girl who was struck by a bullet is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital. Community sources later reported that an additional body was discovered after the assailants fled, raising fears that the death toll could rise.
This latest violence adds to a troubling pattern of insecurity in the area. According to earlier reports by SaharaReporters, the same community experienced a similar attack in July 2025, when gunmen abducted a prominent businessman and carried out multiple kidnappings in surrounding villages.
Residents say the repeated assaults have left communities living in fear, while calling on security agencies to urgently step up protection and prevent further bloodshed.
