Suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have reportedly launched a deadly assault on a Nigerian military base in Adamawa State, leaving at least two soldiers dead and several others feared injured.
According to reports monitored by SUNTV Global Channel from SaharaReporters, the insurgents stormed the Garahamojili military camp on Sunday, engaging troops of the Nigerian Army in an intense firefight that lasted about 20 minutes.
Sources said the attackers eventually overpowered the position after heavy exchanges of gunfire. During the raid, parts of the camp were set ablaze, destroying facilities and burning at least three military vehicles stationed inside the base.
The assailants were also reported to have looted weapons and ammunition before retreating to unknown locations.
As of the time of filing this report, military authorities have not released an official statement confirming the attack or providing full details of casualties and damages.
Adamawa, which borders Borno State — the long-time epicentre of insurgency in Nigeria — has experienced sporadic militant attacks in recent months, raising fresh concerns over security in the region.
