GIG Logistics has confirmed the abduction of one of its drivers, Adekunle Hafis Ganiyu, by suspected terrorists along the Gombi–Baromari Road in Borno State, raising fresh concerns over safety on Nigeria’s northern highways.
In an official statement released on Wednesday and signed by the company’s Legal & Corporate Services Manager, Chukwudochie Runyi, the firm disclosed that the delivery vehicle conveying multiple shipments has neither been located nor recovered since the attack.
According to the company, its priority remains the safety and wellbeing of the abducted driver rather than the value of the missing cargo.
“Our vehicle conveying the shipments has neither been located nor recovered. Notwithstanding this, our overriding concern at this time is not the cargo but the health, safety, and welfare of our employee,” the statement read.
GIG Logistics added that the incident has been formally reported to relevant law enforcement agencies, who have already launched investigations aimed at rescuing the driver and recovering the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the family of Ganiyu, who is based in Lagos and works from the company’s Charity, Oshodi office, has made an emotional appeal to President Bola Tinubu and Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum to urgently intervene.
The driver was reportedly kidnapped on January 24, 2026, while carrying out official duties. His relatives say the incident has left his aged mother devastated and inconsolable.
Describing him as a hardworking young man striving to earn a legitimate living, the family urged authorities to intensify rescue efforts and ensure his safe return.
They expressed hope that swift government intervention would reunite him with his loved ones alive.
