The New York Police Department (NYPD) is mourning the loss of Police Officer Sorffly Davius, who passed away on Thursday following a medical episode while deployed in Kuwait in support of Operation Epic Fury.
Officer Davius, a veteran of the 42nd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army National Guard, had achieved the rank of Major before joining the NYPD in 2014. During his tenure with the department, he was assigned to the 79th Precinct and earned widespread respect for his dedication to both military and police service.
In a statement on Sunday, the NYPD said, “Today, and always, we keep his family in our thoughts and prayers. May we never forget Officer Davius’ sacrifice, and may his memory be a blessing.”
The officer’s death comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East following coordinated U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran’s military and nuclear facilities. Iran retaliated with missile and drone strikes across the region, targeting Israel and threatening Gulf countries including Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE.
Kuwait’s air defense systems have been placed on high alert, with authorities issuing safety warnings to residents and increasing security presence throughout the country. The Gulf state, heavily reliant on oil exports, faces economic uncertainty as global markets react to the crisis, while shipping lanes through the Persian Gulf remain under threat.
Residents in Kuwait have expressed growing fear and unease as the conflict threatens to escalate. Despite its long-standing role as a mediator in regional disputes, Kuwait is now grappling with the spillover effects of the crisis and is urging all parties to seek dialogue and de-escalation.
Officer Davius’ passing is a reminder of the sacrifices made by military personnel and law enforcement officers serving abroad, even far from home.
