Community Rejects Kaduna Government’s Claim Linking Naridon Attack to Plateau Border Area
Residents of Naridon community in Southern Kaduna have challenged the Kaduna State Government’s description of their village as a border community with Plateau State following a deadly attack that reportedly claimed the lives of about 30 people.
The residents said the government’s account was inaccurate, insisting that Naridon is located within Kaduna State and is not situated along the Kaduna–Plateau boundary.
The dispute followed a statement by the Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, who described Naridon as a border community sharing proximity with Ganawuri in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
However, community members and relatives of victims rejected the description, expressing concern that linking the village to the Plateau border could create a misleading picture of the location and circumstances surrounding the attack.
A resident, Ibrahim John, who reported the incident, said several communities exist beyond Naridon before reaching the Plateau State boundary.
He listed communities including Unguwan Rimi, Unguwan Makera, Unguwan Magaji, Kigam, Kishio, Kitanta, and Kamaru, among others, as evidence that Naridon is not a border settlement.
“Where did they get the Plateau border issue from? It is a diversion to say they will work with the Plateau State Government,” John said.
Residents also accused the state government of initially failing to adequately acknowledge the severity of the attack until public pressure mounted.
The attack, which occurred in Naridon village, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, reportedly left dozens dead, with women, children, and elderly residents among the victims. Several others were injured, while houses were also reportedly destroyed.
The Kaduna State Government condemned the attack and directed security agencies to intensify efforts to identify and arrest those responsible.
Authorities have continued investigations into the incident as concerns grow over the rising cases of insecurity and violent attacks in parts of Northern Nigeria.
