Former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has sent a bold message to electoral officials ahead of the 2027 elections, warning that attempts to undermine the voting process will not be tolerated.
Speaking to a large crowd in Akwa Ibom State, Obi emphasised the critical importance of voter participation and electoral accountability, declaring:
“In the upcoming election in 2027, anybody who refuses to count our vote, we will count the person join. Anybody who refuses to count our votes in 2027, we will count him.”
The event drew calls for citizens and political stakeholders to support a transparent, credible, and peaceful electoral process.
Obi, who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over disagreements surrounding the 2023 presidential nomination, subsequently ran for president under the Labour Party, capturing significant attention—particularly from young voters—for his emphasis on transparency and fair elections.
Observers say his experiences during the 2023 polls have strengthened his resolve to fight for electoral integrity, ensuring every vote is properly counted in future elections.
In December 2025, Obi formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signalling his continued engagement in national politics and intention to contest in future elections under a new party platform.
