Ramadan Horror In Zamfara: Gunmen Block Highway, Kidnap Travellers At Iftar — SUNTV Global Reports

News Report (SUNTV Global):

Fresh fears have gripped residents of Zamfara State after suspected armed bandits mounted a daring roadblock and abducted several travellers along the Wanzamai–Magazu corridor in Tsafe Local Government Area.

SUNTV Global gathered that the attack occurred on Tuesday evening as Muslim faithful were preparing to break their fast, turning what should have been a peaceful moment into one of terror.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that heavily armed assailants barricaded the rural road connecting Wanzamai and Magazu communities, stopping vehicles at gunpoint before forcefully whisking away passengers.

A security alert shared by a local source, Bakatsine, confirmed that at least two vehicles were intercepted during the ambush.

According to the alert, all occupants of the vehicles were taken hostage, further worsening the already fragile security situation in the region.

Bakatsine condemned the timing of the attack, describing it as particularly heartbreaking given its occurrence during the sacred fasting period.

He warned that the continued violence underscores the growing inability of citizens to travel safely, even during religious observances meant to promote peace and reflection.

For years, Zamfara State has remained one of Nigeria’s worst-hit areas by banditry, with armed groups frequently carrying out raids, mass abductions, cattle rustling, and extortion of rural communities.

Security analysts say the Wanzamai–Magazu axis has increasingly become a danger zone due to limited security presence and the surrounding forest terrain, which provides cover for criminal gangs.

As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding rescue operations or efforts to track down the attackers.

Meanwhile, residents say fear now defines daily life, as travellers continue to face life-threatening risks on both rural and major roads across the state.
