Detectives from the Nigeria Police Force Zone 1 Headquarters in Kano have formally invited Bello Ado Bayero, the District Head of Tarauni and son of the late Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero, for questioning over his alleged involvement in a N70 million land fraud.
The investigation, according to sources, targets a “coordinated land scam network” accused of defrauding a Kano-based businessman of millions of naira. Yahaya Mohammed Uba, reportedly the main suspect, has already been arrested and is in police custody.
Police spokesperson DSP Husseini Abdullahi confirmed that all individuals named in the complaint, including Bello Ado Bayero, have been summoned. “The Investigating Police Officer is highly professional and committed to justice. The CID and AIG are fully involved, and cases of this nature are treated with the utmost seriousness,” Abdullahi said.
Preliminary investigations indicate financial transfers totalling N60 million from Uba’s account into an account allegedly linked to Bello Ado Bayero, prompting the police invitation.
Other individuals named in the alleged syndicate include Salisu Shuaibu and an unnamed Kano State Land Registry staffer. The complainant, Alhaji Bashir Mohammed, had reportedly agreed to purchase a plot of land in Darmanawa, Tarauni Local Government Area, for N70 million.
The businessman allegedly transferred the full amount into Uba’s GTBank account, who then claimed the land belonged to Bello Ado Bayero. Investigators say the documents provided were allegedly forged, and the property is currently involved in an ongoing Federal High Court dispute.
Efforts to recover the funds reportedly failed, leading the businessman to lodge a formal complaint. Police continue to scrutinize financial records to determine the extent of each suspect’s involvement in the alleged scam.
