The convoy of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, was reportedly attacked on Tuesday along the Airport-Boko Road in Benue State by individuals described as suspected political thugs.
Reports circulating on social media alleged that the attackers attempted to prevent the former Anambra State governor from entering Benue State, warning him against continuing his journey.
Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and there has been no immediate official statement from security authorities confirming the circumstances of the reported attack.
A social media post that drew attention to the incident alleged that the attackers were politically sponsored and called on both the Federal Government and the Benue State Government to intervene.

The alleged incident occurred shortly after Obi visited parts of Benue State as part of a wider political tour covering Kogi, Benue and Enugu states.
During his visit, Obi reportedly stopped at Otukpa in Ogbadibo Local Government Area, where he interacted with residents and traders.
The former governor said residents expressed concerns about insecurity, unemployment, healthcare and education.
He also encouraged Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process and remain committed to protecting their votes ahead of the 2027 elections.
The reported attack comes at a time of heightened security concerns in Benue State, where several communities have experienced violence, killings, abductions and destruction of property in recent months.
Obi has repeatedly expressed concern over insecurity in Benue and other parts of the country.
