Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled an attack by suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on a military position in Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation was supported by the Nigerian Air Force and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), according to military authorities.
The attack reportedly occurred on Monday, September 7, 2026, as troops continued counter-terrorism operations in the North-East.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Acting Military Information Officer of the Headquarters Joint Task Force, North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, said the attackers launched an intense assault on the military location but failed to breach the troops’ defensive positions.
According to the military, the soldiers responded with sustained firepower and resisted the attackers, forcing them to withdraw from the area.
Military authorities said the position in Pulka remained under the control of Nigerian security forces following the encounter.
The Nigerian Air Force reportedly provided Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance support to assist troops during the operation.
The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai also carried out precision strikes against identified hostile positions as the attackers attempted to withdraw, according to the military.
The intervention was said to have disrupted the retreating fighters and prevented them from regrouping.
Members of the Civilian Joint Task Force also supported the operation by providing local intelligence and assisting security forces with situational awareness.
However, one soldier sustained a gunshot injury to his left arm during the encounter.
The military said the injured personnel was immediately evacuated for medical treatment and stabilised, adding that he was responding to treatment.
Following the withdrawal of the attackers, troops commenced follow-up operations aimed at assessing the impact of the engagement, recovering any abandoned equipment and gathering intelligence that could support further operations.
The military described the successful defence of the location as a demonstration of the determination and operational readiness of troops deployed under Operation Hadin Kai.
Captain Goni said security personnel remained on heightened alert, with patrols, surveillance and other offensive and defensive operations continuing across the area.
The Nigerian military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining operations against terrorist groups and other criminal elements in the North-East.
Members of the public were also urged to remain vigilant and provide security agencies with credible information regarding suspicious movements or activities.
