The Nigeria Police Force has intensified nationwide security deployments ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, assuring Nigerians of improved safety measures while calling on citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Rilwan Disu, ordered the enhanced security measures across all states and the Federal Capital Territory as Muslims prepare to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
In a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP extended warm felicitations to Muslim faithful across the country, praying for peace, unity, and national progress during the festive period.
As part of the operational directives, Commissioners of Police and tactical commanders have been instructed to strengthen deployments and implement proactive policing strategies throughout the celebrations.
The measures include the strategic deployment of personnel to Eid prayer grounds, recreational centres, highways, motor parks, markets, and other public spaces to ensure public safety and order.
The Force also announced intensified visibility policing, coordinated patrols, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-led surveillance activities aimed at preventing criminal activities during the festive period.
According to the statement, rapid response units have been placed on standby to swiftly address any security threats that may arise before, during, or after the celebrations.
Reiterating the importance of public participation in security management, the Police emphasized its “If You See Something, Say Something” campaign, urging citizens to report suspicious persons, objects, or activities.
Members of the public were advised to report unattended bags, unusual movements, loitering individuals around public gathering points, and any behaviour that appears out of place.
The Force stressed that timely information from citizens remains critical to preventing security breaches and ensuring a peaceful celebration nationwide.
It further assured Nigerians that all reports would be treated confidentially, urging the public not to ignore suspicious situations or assume others have already reported them.
The Inspector-General of Police also wished Muslims a peaceful and safe Eid-el-Kabir celebration, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the country.
