Operatives of the Police Mobile Force have intercepted a suspected ammunition courier and recovered 800 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition cleverly concealed inside a motorcycle fuel tank along the border between Zamfara and Katsina states.
The suspect, 25-year-old Mannir Adam, was arrested on March 10, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. at Yankara Point, a border checkpoint jointly monitored by security operatives.
According to a police situation report obtained by SUNTV Global Channel, the arrest followed intelligence received by ASP Goma Ibrahim, the Unit Commander of the Mine unit attached to the checkpoint.
Security operatives from the 42 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron, Gusau, quickly mounted surveillance at the checkpoint after receiving the information.
Adam, a resident of Yankuzo Village in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, was intercepted while riding a red Boxer motorcycle from Unguwar Bawa in Saminaka Local Government Area of Kaduna State to Kucheri Village in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State.
Police sources revealed that during a thorough search of the motorcycle, officers discovered 800 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition used for AK-47 rifles hidden inside the motorcycle’s fuel tank.
The clever concealment method initially made the ammunition difficult to detect until security personnel carried out a detailed inspection.
The suspect and the recovered ammunition have since been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation.
Police authorities say efforts are ongoing to uncover the source of the ammunition and the network behind the attempted delivery, as well as the intended destination of the deadly cargo.
Security officials believe the interception may have prevented the ammunition from falling into the hands of criminal groups operating within the region.
