Ondo State, March 11, 2026 –
Kidnappers have reportedly abducted a prominent farmer and outspoken supporter of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, demanding a whopping ₦100 million for his release.
Joseph Kayode, a well-known farmer from Ilu-Abo in Akure North Local Government Area, was seized on Monday while working on his poultry farm along Kajola Road, less than five kilometres from Akure Airport.
Family members revealed that Joseph, who publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to President Tinubu on Facebook just last month, is among three victims kidnapped in the incident. The others are identified as Aladesuyi and Easter Akinlolu.
According to the Ondo State Police Command, spokesperson Abayomi Jimoh confirmed that masked gunmen stormed the farm early Monday morning, firing sporadically into the air to terrorize residents before abducting the trio.
“The victims were taken to an unknown location after the attackers created panic in the area,” Jimoh stated.
The abduction has caused widespread fear in Ilu-Abo and neighbouring communities, prompting the temporary closure of some local schools. Authorities are actively investigating the incident and pursuing leads to secure the safe release of the victims.
Kidnapping for ransom has become increasingly common in Nigeria’s rural areas, where farmers and remote residents are especially vulnerable due to isolated work locations.
