Labour Party presidential candidate and former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has defended his administration’s education record, rejecting claims that he failed to build schools while in office.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s One-on-One, Obi said his government achieved far more than simply constructing classroom buildings, stressing that his administration made significant investments in the education sector.
Responding to questions about specific schools built during his tenure, Obi pointed to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University campus in Igbariam as one of the major projects executed under his leadership.
“I built more than schools,” Obi said.
He explained that the Igbariam campus was undeveloped before his administration began work on the site.
“If you go today to Odumegwu Ojukwu University, there’s a place called Igbariam campus. I cut the grass. What I mean is, it was a bush. I leveled the bush,” he stated.
According to Obi, his administration transformed the previously undeveloped land into a functioning university campus, describing the project as evidence of his government’s commitment to expanding access to higher education.
The former governor maintained that his achievements in education extended beyond erecting school buildings, arguing that his administration focused on developing infrastructure and strengthening educational institutions across Anambra State.
