Outrage Over Dilapidated Primary School in Kogi Community

March 15, 2026 — Education News

A viral video has exposed the shocking condition of Okpu Primary School, located in Okpu Community, drawing attention to the poor state of educational infrastructure in the area.

The footage, recorded in Ayia Ward of Kogi State, shows classrooms constructed with mud and bamboo, with unpaved floors and no basic structural features such as doors, windows, or ceilings.

According to the video, the building resembles a neglected shed rather than a functional learning environment. Inside, the classrooms appear dilapidated and unsuitable for pupils, raising concerns about the safety and wellbeing of children studying there.

While documenting the school, the man filming repeatedly expressed frustration over what he described as years of neglect by authorities in Ibaji Local Government Area. He pointed out the deteriorating structure and poor learning conditions faced by pupils in the community.

“This is Okpu village, Okpu community,” he said in the video while pointing to the building identified as the school. “Just look at the classrooms. Look at it.”

The footage has sparked renewed criticism over the lack of government investment in rural education infrastructure, with many calling for urgent intervention to improve learning conditions for children in the area.
