Nigeria’s ruling party, the (APC), has officially kicked off preparations for the 2027 general elections, unveiling a detailed timetable for its primaries and setting the presidential nomination form at a staggering ₦100 million.
According to the schedule released in Abuja, the process begins with the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms between April 25 and May 2, 2026. Aspirants are expected to submit completed forms by May 4, while screening will take place from May 6 to May 8.
The party fixed its presidential primary election for May 15–16, 2026, making it the first in a series of primaries. Other key dates include:
- House of Representatives primaries – May 18
- Senate primaries – May 20
- State Assembly primaries – May 21
- Governorship primaries – May 23
The timetable was signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, , outlining strict deadlines and procedures for all aspirants.
In terms of cost, presidential hopefuls will pay ₦30 million for the expression of interest form and ₦70 million for the nomination form, bringing the total to ₦100 million. Governorship forms are pegged at ₦50 million, Senate at ₦20 million, House of Representatives at ₦10 million, and State Assembly at ₦6 million.
However, the APC announced concessions for inclusivity, stating that women, youths, and persons with disabilities will pay only for the expression of interest form and 50% of the nomination fee.
Speaking on the development, APC National Publicity Secretary, , said the timetable aligns with Nigeria’s electoral laws and reflects the party’s commitment to transparency and internal democracy.
The announcement signals the formal start of political maneuvering ahead of 2027, as aspirants begin consultations and strategizing within party ranks.
