The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has approved the mobilisation of 17 senior officers into the Police Monitoring Unit (PMU), just days after a major redeployment exercise that affected 56 officers across the unit.
The directive was contained in an internal memo dated April 11, 2026, issued from the Office of the Force Secretary at Force Headquarters, Abuja, and signed by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Bode Akinbamilowo on behalf of the IGP.
The memo ordered the immediate release and deployment of the affected officers to the PMU, with instructions that the directive be treated with urgency by all relevant police formations.
Those mobilised include senior officers drawn from various commands and specialized units across the country. They are expected to reinforce operations within the Monitoring Unit as part of ongoing restructuring within the Nigeria Police Force.
According to the directive, the officers were selected from different formations including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Zone 7, Lagos Command, Rivers Command, the Nigeria Institute of Police Studies (NIPS), and the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).
Police authorities emphasized that the mobilisation is part of broader administrative reforms aimed at strengthening monitoring, enforcement capacity, and special operations nationwide.
This development comes shortly after the IGP approved a large-scale redeployment of 56 senior officers from the PMU to various commands across the country, in what security sources describe as a continuous internal restructuring of the unit.
The Nigeria Police Force has maintained that the ongoing adjustments are intended to improve efficiency, enhance accountability, and reposition key operational units for better service delivery.
