The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has criticised the recently commissioned Iwo Township Road project, alleging that the infrastructure is substandard and politically motivated.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the council’s Head of Media and Publicity Committee, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the opposition alleged that the road contract was awarded to a company without the required civil engineering expertise, claiming this affected the quality of the project.
The council further alleged that sections of the road showed signs of deterioration before the official commissioning and accused the state government of carrying out emergency repairs ahead of the inauguration.
According to the APC campaign council, the project does not meet the standard expected for a strategic economic corridor such as Iwo. It argued that residents deserve durable infrastructure capable of serving the community for many years.
The opposition also compared the project with road infrastructure initiated during the administration of former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, claiming that the previous government had embarked on the reconstruction of the Osogbo-Iwo Road as part of a broader regional transport network.
The council further alleged that the larger road project was discontinued before later receiving approval from the Federal Government for reconstruction using concrete pavement.
It urged the Osun State Government to prioritise the delivery of quality infrastructure over what it described as politically driven projects, maintaining that public resources should be invested in roads that meet acceptable engineering standards.
As of the time of this report, the Osun State Government had not publicly responded to the allegations made by the APC Governorship Campaign Council.
