Suspected terrorists have launched a deadly attack on a settlement in Sodo, within the Lafiagi area of Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, leaving one person dead and several others abducted.
The incident, which occurred on Monday evening, has further raised concerns over the worsening security situation in Kwara North, where rural communities have repeatedly come under violent attacks in recent months.
According to local sources, heavily armed assailants stormed the settlement and operated for several minutes, firing shots and causing residents to flee in panic.
One eyewitness said the attackers moved through the community on motorcycles, targeting residents and whisking away an unspecified number of victims to an unknown destination.
“The attackers invaded the Fulani settlement in the evening. They killed one person and abducted several others. Everyone ran for safety,” the source said.
Another resident confirmed that the gunmen operated with little resistance, adding that the community was thrown into chaos during the invasion.
A video reportedly obtained from the scene showed armed men on motorcycles before or after the attack, underscoring growing concerns about the mobility and boldness of criminal groups operating in the region.
Photographic evidence from the area also showed a victim lying dead inside a room following the attack.
The Kwara State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident at the time of filing this report.
The latest attack adds to a series of violent incidents in Edu Local Government Area and other parts of Kwara North, where residents have continued to report kidnappings, killings, and repeated invasions.
Many communities in the area have been forced to abandon their homes due to fear of further attacks, as insecurity continues to spread across rural settlements in the state.
