Massive protests swept across the United States on Saturday as thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in what organisers describe as the third wave of the “No Kings” rallies.
The protests, which have previously drawn millions, were staged against the policies of President Donald Trump, including the ongoing war in Iran, strict immigration enforcement, and the rising cost of living.
Major cities including New York City, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, and Minneapolis witnessed large turnouts, with demonstrators marching through major streets and public landmarks.
In Washington, D.C., protesters flooded the National Mall and gathered around the Lincoln Memorial, displaying effigies of Trump and Vice President JD Vance—a symbolic protest tactic seen in earlier rallies.
Organisers accused Trump of exhibiting authoritarian tendencies, stating that “power belongs to the people, not to wannabe kings.” However, the White House dismissed the demonstrations, describing them as insignificant.
Tensions escalated in some areas. In Los Angeles, at least two individuals were arrested after allegedly attacking federal officers near the Roybal Federal Building. Law enforcement responded using non-lethal crowd control measures, while minor clashes were also reported in Dallas.
A significant rally in Saint Paul, Minnesota, drew thousands, fueled by outrage over the deaths of civilians linked to federal immigration enforcement. The event featured speeches from political figures and a performance by Bruce Springsteen, who used the platform to criticize immigration policies.
In New York City, demonstrators marched through Midtown Manhattan, prompting temporary road closures as authorities managed the large crowds.
Despite isolated incidents, organisers insist the protests remain largely peaceful. Previous “No Kings” rallies reportedly attracted nearly seven million participants nationwide, with some states deploying the National Guard as a precaution.
Since returning to office in January 2025, Trump has issued a series of executive orders expanding presidential authority and deploying federal forces to cities—moves he defends as necessary to restore order and strengthen the nation.
“I’m not a king,” Trump previously stated, rejecting accusations of authoritarianism. However, critics argue that his actions could undermine democratic institutions.
The protests have also spread beyond major cities to smaller towns and even internationally, with demonstrations reported in Paris, London, and Lisbon, where American expatriates joined calls for accountability.
