The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has approved the immediate posting of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Olabode Adeleye Akinbamilowo as the new Force Secretary at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
According to an internal police wireless message dated March 4, 2026, and originating from NIGPOL FORSEC Abuja, Akinbamilowo has been directed to assume the strategic role with immediate effect as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen administrative operations within the Nigeria Police Force.
As Force Secretary, Akinbamilowo will oversee one of the most critical departments in the police hierarchy, responsible for the appointment, promotion, and deployment of senior officers across the country.
The posting has already been reflected in the official records of the force, confirming that the directive from the office of the Inspector-General has taken effect.
The appointment comes amid a broader leadership restructuring within the force following recent promotions approved by the Police Service Commission.
The commission recently elevated seven Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspectors-General to fill vacancies created by the retirement of several senior officers who served under the former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
In a statement issued by the commission’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, the promotions were said to be based on merit, seniority, service record, and performance during written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Among those promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General are Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, and Margaret Agebe Ochalla.
Others include Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada.
The commission noted that the promotions were necessary to reinforce the leadership structure of the police force, especially after the retirement of eight Deputy Inspectors-General who previously occupied key positions within the police management team.
Meanwhile, Fayoade Adegoke, who was earlier promoted to the rank of DIG, will continue to serve as a member of the Force Management Team.
Officials say the latest postings and promotions are part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the operational and administrative effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
