The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has urged Nigerians to ignore what he described as political distractions and propaganda surrounding the party, insisting that the focus should remain on national rebuilding and democratic renewal.
In a statement released on Monday, following the reported alignment of prominent political figures including former presidential candidate Peter Obi and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso with the party, Dickson said the NDC is undergoing a major political convergence aimed at reshaping Nigeria’s political landscape.
He described the development as a “powerful convergence” of political experience, grassroots support, and ideological commitment, adding that the party is built on long-term trust and structured political planning.
According to him, the NDC is not a sudden creation, but a movement that dates back to 2017, when its registration process reportedly began with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Dickson said initial approval was granted at the time before the process was temporarily halted, adding that the application was later revived and updated when party registration resumed.
To support his claim, he referenced documentation, including early administrative filings and internal records allegedly showing efforts to establish the party structure years earlier, including the selection of its logo design.
He dismissed suggestions that the party’s emergence is politically opportunistic, insisting instead that it is built on a long-term vision to create a stable ideological platform comparable to major global political institutions.
Dickson stated that the party’s ambition is to evolve into a structured ideological movement similar to political organisations such as the African National Congress (ANC) in South Africa during its peak, as well as established parties in Europe, the United States, India, and China.
He said the party is designed to outlive its founders and focus on institutional strength, internal democracy, and generational leadership development.
According to him, the NDC also places strong emphasis on youth participation, women inclusion, and political mentorship, while aiming to serve both elite and grassroots populations.
Dickson called on Nigerians to join the party, register, and actively participate in the political process, stressing that the goal is to “reclaim and rebuild” the country through collective effort.
He also urged supporters to remain focused and avoid being distracted by what he described as political misinformation and external criticism.
The statement comes amid growing political realignments and heightened debate over emerging coalition movements in Nigeria’s evolving political space.
