KADUNA — Six people were reportedly kidnapped over the weekend along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, with four of them now freed, while authorities remain tight-lipped about the incident, raising alarm among residents and families.
According to local sources, the victims were returning from a wedding near the Buruku and Udawa areas when armed bandits ambushed their vehicle, opening fire and abducting six individuals at gunpoint.
While some locals claim the freed victims managed to escape on their own, others suggest that a ransom may have been paid. The identities of those released have been confirmed as Shamsudeen Adamu, Abubakar Abubakar, Ibrahim Abbas, and Abdullahi Walli. Two others remain in captivity, with their families still waiting anxiously for updates.
Residents and journalists say police have provided little to no information about the attack, leading to frustration and concern over possible cover-ups. Efforts by SUNTV Global Channel to reach the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, Mansur Hassan, were unsuccessful.
Sources also warn that bandits have resumed attacks on villages in Birnin Gwari, targeting residents and destroying farm produce, highlighting the ongoing insecurity in the region.
The incident underscores persistent fears for safety on Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road, a known hotspot for criminal activity, as communities continue to demand urgent government intervention.
